This is a classic jar by Lorraine Williams.  It is a long neck and a low, rounded shoulder.  The jar has a swirling band of incised clouds, mountains, and rain designs.  It starts at the rim and extends to the base.  The remainder of the jar is polished, and the piece is fired with colorations across the surface.  After the piece is fired, it is covered in pinon pitch, typical of all traditional Navajo pottery, harkening back to when it was utilitarian.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “LW Lorraine Williams”.  Lorraine has won numerous awards for her pottery and has been featured in books such as “A Legacy of Generations”.
