Williams, Lorraine – Jar with Cloud Rim and Star Designs (2017) with Ribbon

8.5"w x 8.5"h

$ 600.00

This is a round jar by Lorraine Williams. The jar a rounded rim representing clouds. The clouds are incised extending downward on the jar.  The body of the jar is fully designed with incised stars. The background area stippled for texture.  The shape creates a lot of space for the designed surface.  Each of the stars is incised and painted.  The jar was traditionally fired to create color variations on the surface.  After the firing, it is covered in pinon pitch, which is typical of all traditional Navajo pottery harkening back to when it was utilitarian.  Lorraine has won numerous awards for her pottery and has been featured in books such as “A Legacy of Generations”.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “LW”.  It has a second-place ribbon from the 72nd Navajo Nation Fair.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
