Williams, Lorraine – Large Bowl with Bear Lid (1994), Ribbon

8"w x 8"h (w/ lid)

$ 600.00

This is a round bowl by Lorraine Williams. The piece is coil-built, incised, and traditionally fired.  The bowl has seven rows of triangular corrugation.  Below that are incised stars.  This is one of the few pieces that we have had by Lorraine that has a lid!  The lid is in the shape of a bear and also has a star on its back.  The designs are painted red and black to accentuate the patterns and then traditionally fired to create the surface coloration.  After the piece is fired it is covered in pinon-pitch.  The pitch is a reminder of the historic Navajo pottery when it was utilitarian.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “LW, Lorraine Williams”.  Lorraine has won numerous awards for her pottery and has been featured in books such as “A Legacy of Generations”.  This piece has a ribbon from the 1994 Museum of Northern Arizona Navajo pottery show.
