This lidded bowl by Christopher Youngblood combines modern and classic imagery.  This bowl is carved with sixteen deep “s” swirl melon ribs.  The are each fully polished and the bowl is fired red.  The bowl has a lid with a tablita, the headdress worn by women during Pueblo dances.  The front and back are polished red with a micaceous base and black slipped top edge.  Chris said that he wanted to create a piece that gave a sense of motion and movement. The elegance of the deeply carved ribs are perfect for the piece and the coloration from the firing is striking!  The bowl was traditionally fired a deep red coloration.  It is signed on the bottom, “Chris Youngblood”.
