Jamie Zane Smith creates dynamic pieces that combine strong forms with stamped surface designs. This jar is massive in size and width.  It is coil-built and then the sides are stamped with design while the clay is still wet.  Jamie will use a wooden stamp that he carves himself, pushing the design in dozens of times.  The surface is then highlighted with various clay slips.  The rim of the jar is polished and incised and has the style of a classic Iroquois cooking jar with three points.  Note the precision of the lines and that even the inside of the rim is fully polished! It is signed on the bottom, “Jamie Zane Smith”.  Jamie brings together a multitude of dimensions in his work blending the historic past with his modern visions.  Jamie remains one of the young creative potters bringing life to the clay in an area outside the southwest.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
