Jamie Zane Smith creates dynamic pieces that combine strong forms with stamped surface designs. This jar has a round body and a straight neck. The body of the jar has impressed designs that were carved onto a wooden paddle. While the jar was still wet, the designs were impressed into the clay. Jamie then added a layer of clay to create the water designs that encircle the jar. They are meant to look like leather stiched onto the surface of the jar. The neck has more deeply carved rain designs. The jar includes the original wooden stamp used to create the designs that was carved by Jamie. It is signed on the bottom, “Jamie Zane Smith”. Jamie brings together a multitude of dimensions in his work, blending the historic past with his modern visions. Jamie remains one of the young creative potters bringing life to the clay in an area outside the southwest. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
