Gonzales, Rose & Tse-Pe – Black-and-Sienna Jar with Avanyu and Turquoise (1970-71)

6.5"w x 7"h

$ 2,000.00

This is one of the few collaborative pieces by Rose Gonzales and her son, Tse-Pe.  They worked on a few pieces together as Rose was teaching her daughter-in-law Dora to make pottery.  This jar was coil-built, carved, and stone polished by Rose.  The rim was two-toned sienna, the turquoise stone was added for the eye and the background area was etched by Tse-Pe.  The jar is a striking combination of their work and portends the future of work by Tse-Pe and Dora when she began making pieces in 1971.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed, “Rose” and with the “TP” hallmark for “Tse-Pe” on the bottom in the clay.  Definitely a unique piece of San Ildefonso Pueblo pottery history!
