This is a charming small bowl by Maria Martinez.  It is a classic piece of her early pottery.  It was made and stone polished by Maria and then painted by her husband, Julian Martinez (1897-1943).  The bowl has a round shape and the exterior is fully polished.  The rim of the bowl is painted with a plant design.  It is simple and elegant. The bowl is fired a dark black coloration.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Marie + Julian” on the bottom.  The bowl is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
