This jar by Maria Martinez is an exceptional jar.  It was made by Maria Martinez and painted by her daughter-in-law Santana.  The jar has Maria’s classic shape with a sharp shoulder and sloping sides.  It has a very highly polished surface. The design around the neck of the has two sections of feathers and two of lightning and mesa designs.  The highly polished surface seems to illuminate the designs.  The jar is an excellent example of Maria’s pottery from this time.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Marie + Santana”.  From the style of the painting, it looks to be the mid-1950’s.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  I left the original price tag of “$6.45” on the bottom.  It’s just a nice piece of historic provenance.  This jar is definitely a classic!
