It is not often that we come across a wedding vase by Maria Martinez.  This piece is coil-built and has a round body and elongated spouts. The jar is fully polished, even the handle!  The body of the jar is painted with a feather pattern around the shoulder.  It was made by Maria and painted by her daughter-in-law Santana (the wife of Adam Martinez).  It was fired to a near gunmetal coloration.  The piece is signed on the bottom, “Marie + Santana”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.   An exciting piece of pottery with an unusual shape by one of the iconic Native potters!
