This is a complex small bowl by Richard Zane Smith. The bowl is coil-built, with the coils left exposed. While it was still wet, the designs were incised into the clay to create the arrow patterns. After it dried, it was painted with clay slips to create the colorations on the surface of the bowl.  It is a complex and interesting piece for the size, as Richard is best known for his large-scale vessels.  It is signed, “Richard Zane Smith” and dated 2011.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
